Roof Inspections

Our staff can come out and thoroughly inspect your roof in the aftermath of a major storm or high winds. We’ll check for leaks and severe storm damage that needs immediate attention, and even smaller issues that may cause major problems in the future. We offer free inspections that may prevent costly repairs at a later date.

During Roof Inspections, We Look For Things Like:

  • Shingles with surface granules that have been worn away
  • Broken or missing tiles on a tile roof
  • Damage or wear to flashing around roof joints or chimneys
  • Cracks in the roof’s underlayment or sheathing
  • Cracked or missing caulk
  • Rotting or tears in booting around pipes
  • Cracks in chimneys
  • Missing capping
  • The condition of your gutters

It can be easy to identify serious roof damage. But minor damage can be harder to spot until it becomes a full blown  problem. That’s why you need a team of experts to inspect your roof after a serious storm. Our trusted specialists are standing by to provide a free inspection to give you peace of mind when it comes to your property’s roof.

Our crew always completes each job quickly and cleans up thoroughly afterward.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofs from MayDay are quickly becoming a Midwest favorite. The durability and modern look delivers home owners a fresh style and superior craftsmanship.

In recent years metal roofs have been gaining popularity in Minnesota, Iowa and around the country. That popularity is due to their style, sustainability, and even some insurance discounts. Metal roofs are installed by using custom shapes, colors, and sizes of metal sheets to augment your home’s unique style.

WORKING TOGETHER

Benefits of a Metal Roof

Lifespan

Roofs made of metal have an incredibly long life span when compared to those made of other, more traditional materials. They will easily tolerate Midwestern weather conditions and are expected to last the lifetime of a building (50-70 years) with limited maintenance.

Maintenance Requirements

Roof maintenance can be one of the most expensive long-term considerations when choosing a new roof. Traditional materials are susceptible to damage from hail, snow, water, and wildlife. Even small repairs that are neglected can cause large problems down the road. Metal roofs are only damaged by significant weights falling on them, such as downed trees. No more worrying about routine maintenance.

Fire Safety

Metal roofs offer extreme fire resistance. Metal is obviously not a flammable material under normal circumstances, and a metal roof will keep your home safe from any burning objects that fall from above, such as fireworks which cause over 18,000 roof fires annually.

Animal Damage Resistant

Sometimes the land of 10,000 lakes seems like the land of 10,000 wildlife pests. Woodpeckers can poke holes in roofs, racoons can chew them up, and wasps see them as the perfect place to build a nest. Metal roofs are supremely resistant to damaging wildlife activity.

Environmentally Friendly

Metal roofs installed by MayDay don’t contain any lead, mercury, or other harmful metallic substances, so you can rest easy knowing that our roofs will have no negative health effects. Our roofs are also made from 100% recyclable metals and do not require special disposal. Unlike shingle roofs, metal roofs contain no petroleum products, reducing their carbon footprint.

Energy Efficiency

Metal roofs will pay for themselves over the lifetime of their installation. In the summer metal roofs reflect solar heat which can result in reducing cooling costs by as much as 25 percent. In the winter, the roofs provide an excellent insulating layer against the cold.

The Last Roof You'll Ever Buy

Our metal roofs provide outstanding longevity, protection, and value for money when compared with traditional shingle roofs. Over their lifespan, metal roofs will pay for themselves in reduced maintenance, replacement, and cooling costs.

We take care to supply only the best metal materials to our customers and assure your new roof meets the highest quality standards even before it is installed. During installation we pay careful attention to every detail to ensure that your new roof lasts for decades to come.

Residential Metal Roofing Styles

Siding

Home siding replacement is one of the most important exterior remodeling projects that Midwest homeowners undertake. Not only do the Cost v. Value Reports consistently mark siding replacement with one of the highest returns on investment but it also provides a perfect canvas to express your personality.

You pick the colors you want, MayDay Restoration will take care of the rest!

One of our experienced project managers will help you select the siding that fits your home and your budget. Our expert installers will use the best technology available to ensure that the exterior of your protects you from water penetration, pests, and the elements.

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is an excellent choice for your home, and it brings with it many advantages. It is one of the most durable siding options and will usually last about fifty years. Vinyl siding is also a very low maintenance material, requiring little to no ongoing maintenance. At the most it will need to be power washed once a year to remove accumulated dirt or mold. Vinyl siding is also the most affordable option on the market. Despite its low price point, vinyl siding can be textured and molded to look like other materials, such as cedar shingles or wood clapboard. However, non-insulated vinyl has some disadvantages. Because it does not fit perfectly flush against the structure, it is possible for moisture or insects to penetrate the gaps left behind the siding, which can lead to damage. Damage can also be caused to the vinyl over time from freezing temperatures, which weaken it and may cause it to crack.

Wood Siding

Nothing can quite compare to the beauty and elegance of classic wood siding. When properly cared for, it will stand up well against the elements and look beautiful for many years. A variety of styles are available to choose from. Wood siding however requires more maintenance and needs to be cleaned and painted or stained on a regular basis. Power washing at least once a year, and painting or staining every four years will keep your wood siding looking fresh. The best wood choices for siding are redwood, cedar, or cypress, as they are best suited to withstanding moisture, insects and various weather conditions. When the wood is regularly cared for it can easily protect your home and look beautiful for fifty years or longer. Wood siding is more costly than other siding choices, especially considering the additional maintenance costs over the years.

Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement siding is becoming increasingly popular among the professionals in the siding industry. That popularity is due to the fact that it feels and looks a lot more like wood than vinyl siding, and is available in styles that resemble wood shingles, clapboard and vertical panels. Moreover, fiber cement board is more resistant to moisture, insects, rot and hail than other options. It does not rust, crack, or rot as quickly as wood and vinyl, and the life expectancy is more than fifty years. Fiber cement is a low-maintenance choice, with power washing suggested once a year to give your home a fresh, new look. After twenty-five years, the siding may require a fresh coat of paint.

Soffits and Fascia

Soffits and fascia are the pieces of trim that cover your eaves and overhangs (where the siding meets the roof line). They do more than add architectural flair and in fact provide an important barrier that protects the interior of the home from the elements and pests. They also provide a great location to place attic vents which will increase the energy efficiency of the home. As a homeowner, it is essential to make sure that your soffits and fascia are well-kept and to repair or replace any damaged portions. There are several different materials available for soffits and fascia; the most common practice is to replace them with the same material as you chose for your siding.

Midwest Windows Replacement and Installation

MayDay Window Experts serve homeowners in the Twin Cities, Des Moines and surrounding areas. Our window professionals have years of experience replacing thousands of windows. The keys to a successful replacement project is a proper fit, an energy efficient product, and a quality installation. You can count on MayDay Restoration to provide all three.

Minnesota Window Glass Options

CLEAR GLASS

The most cost-effective glass option. These double-pane windows with clear glass transmit the highest level of visible light. The lack of coatings to the glass also allows for the highest level of passive solar heat gain but conversely, it allows heat loss as well. Clear glass windows that are not treated are not Energy Star rated. While you may save some money on the installation costs, you will lose money in the long run with higher energy bills. With the modern technology available in glass packages today, homeowners searching for passive solar heat gain can achieve this by other options and should generally avoid untreated glass packages.

DOUBLE PANE LOW E-GLASS

Low-E glass uses cutting edge technology to achieve the highest level of energy efficiency possible. This glass helps lower home energy costs while transmitting extreme levels of natural light and provide year-round comfort. The space in between the two panes of glass can have inert gases such as Argon added further improve the efficiency.

TRIPLE PANE GLASS

Available with Low-E glass coatings for the highest performance possible using 3 panes of glass allows for 2 dead air spaces and 6 glass surfaces (2 sides of every pane of glass). These provide maximum energy efficiency. A couple of draw backs to consider with triple pane windows are added cost and added weight. 33% more glass often means 33% more cost to manufacture. Additionally, the third pane of glass adds substantially to weight of the glass unit and can sometimes be to heavy for exceptionally large windows.

Midwest Casement Windows

MayDay casement windows offer amazing options, opening up to 90°, with a convenient turn handle that ensures ease of control. These windows feature triple-sealing, ensuring protection from the Minnesota elements and a very highest degree of energy efficiency. Equipped with quality locking, and security, our windows are designed to keep your home safe.

Midwest Double Hung Windows

A Minnesota modern window with twice the functionality. The key feature of a double hung window is that both sashes operate independently of each other allowing the window to open from the top, the bottom, or both at the same time. Mayday’s double hung windows are equipped with tilt latches which allow homeowners to clean the outside of the glass quickly, and conveniently without the need for ladders on the outside of the home.

Midwest Double Slider Windows

This Minnesota window offers great airflow with a minimalistic look for the size. These are commonly used in bathrooms and kitchens. Double slider windows offer the latest energy efficiency technologies, and smooth sliding operation.

Midwest Single Slider Windows

Considered Minnesota’s most affordable windows. Similar to double sliders but instead of both sashes sliding, one sash is fixed. These windows are budget friendly and also do well in locations where double operators are not desirable such as bathrooms.

Midwest Picture Windows

Picture windows are a beautiful option to bring in tons of natural light and showcase gorgeous views. These windows do not operate and instead provide an unobstructed view of the surrounding areas. These windows are best suited for places where air flow is not needed or impractical such as vaulted ceilings.

Midwest Gutter Durability

Not only are gutter systems a critical part of your home’s exterior maintenance, but they are also a visual focal point. Damaged or defective gutters are potentially expensive risks to the overall integrity of your home, and they look ugly to boot. Your gutter system must be equipped to withstand all of Minnesota’s weather conditions without falling into disrepair. That’s why MayDay installs gutters that are 25 percent thicker than the aluminum offerings found at big box retailers. Our curved, ultra-durable designs, combined with commercial grade hangers and screws, aid in the prevention of snow or ice build-up from detaching your gutter system from your roof.

gutters installed to protect your property from Midwestern weather

When you need a gutter system that will permanently divert rainwater and snowmelt away from your property, while standing up to Minnesota and Iowa's ice and snow, you want to speak to the experts MayDay. We are the Twin Cities’ and Des Moines area premier home restoration and maintenance specialists who have extensive experience installing the industry’s best gutter systems all over Minnesota. MayDay will professionally assess your current gutters, recommend a custom solution that fits your home’s style, and install new gutters that will protect your property from costly water damage and stay looking beautiful for years to come.

MayDay gutter systems offer optimal performance in all Midwest weather conditions, whether it’s rain and heat in the summer or snow and ice in the winter. Our journeymen will fabricate a new custom aluminum gutter system on site, always ensuring a precise fit for your home.

Enough precipitation falls on your home each year to fill three Olympic size swimming pools, and your gutters have to hold up to a significant amount of waterfall as they channel that huge amount of water away from your home. In the winter, the strain put on your gutter system is compounded by lasting snow and ice. Gutters installed by MayDay will expel more water by using larger gutters and larger downspouts than other providers. Using a larger surface area to collect rainwater coupled with precision run off installation techniques will allow your home to handle twice as much water as competing systems. This means they drain faster and move rainwater and snowmelt more effectively away from your property.

Gutter Guards & Gutter Protection Systems

Gutter protection systems, often called gutter guards, are designed to go over the top of your gutters and prevent leaves, needles, pests, and other materials from building up in your gutters. This is exceptionally important in the mid-west, where clogs can easily lead to your gutters not being able to properly move water away from your house during heavy rain.

Gutter protection systems come in a variety of different styles and materials ranging from mesh screens, metal screens, and solid metal caps. Ultimately, the purpose is to keep debris out of your gutters and not require maintenance. While some systems are better than others, they also come with varying costs.

Not all houses have the same kinds of concerns (pine trees close by for example) and different circumstances require a different kind of gutter protection; Mayday Restoration works with several different manufacturers so that we can find the right fit for your home and the best price possible.
